Shared Lives week is the biggest annual celebration of Shared Lives in the UK!
Shared Lives is where a person who needs support to live well, moves in with or visits and approved Shared Lives carer. Together they share home, family and community life.
People in Shared Lives, including those with learning disabilities, mental or physical ill health, older people, those who need help coming home from hospital and many others, experience extraordinary outcomes through sharing the ordinary routines of family life.
Shared Lives is a form of social care, but more than any other service its strength lies in the relationships it fosters. People who live in Shared Lives report feeling connected for the first time, able to make new friends and achieve things they thought they never would. Sharing lives leads to richer lives and more connected communities.
None of this would be possible without the amazing Shared Lives carers who open their homes and hearts to people who need support - Shared Lives Week is designed to celebrate them! This year we're focusing on how Shared Lives supports people's human rights.
