South Shore Mini Maker Faire started with a small group of individuals interested in showcasing the fabulous creations of students and teachers in Northwest Indiana.

The group, consisting of public educators, local libraries, after-school providers, and other non-profit organizations, held its first successful “Maker Fest” at Michigan City High School in May 2018. Over 150 participants and 10 makers were present.

Inspired by the success of Maker movements across the U.S., this small group joined forces with the Michigan City Mainstreet Association and has now expanded to include other organizations across LaPorte County. They decided to expand their spring event into a “Mini Maker Faire” and to hold it at a larger outdoor venue, Westcott Park in Michigan City, Indiana. They invite artists, creators, and makers, from across the entire South Shore region to gather with them on June 22, 2019, to celebrate creativity, ingenuity, and the maker culture of our amazing communities.

Maker Faire originated in 2006 in the San Francisco Bay Area as a project of the editors of Make: magazine.  It has since grown into a significant worldwide network of both flagship and independently-produced events.  Read more on Maker Faire history, the Maker Movement, as well as how to start a Maker Faire or a School Maker Faire where you live.
